Okaloosa County lifts evacuation orders for Zones A and B

Residents and visitors can return to Okaloosa Island and coastal areas of Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville now that the county has lifted its evacuation orders. Watch for downed power lines and debris on the way in.

Okaloosa County lifted its evacuation orders for Zones A and B on Sunday, Oct. 11. The orders covered residents and visitors on Okaloosa Island and in coastal areas of Niceville, Destin and Fort Walton Beach. The county said conditions have improved enough for safe travel into those areas.

Residents and visitors should stay cautious in their neighborhoods and watch for downed power lines and storm debris.

County Commission Chairman Trey Goodwin thanked the county's emergency management team, utilities and first responders. He said the county will keep supporting residents through recovery and called the community one that "comes together in these challenging times."
