Okaloosa County has ordered a mandatory evacuation of Zones A and B, effective at noon today. Two shelters open at 6 p.m. — one of them pet-friendly — and sand is still available at two locations, though the county says the south pile is going fast.
If you are in Zone A or Zone B, the county wants you out from noon today. Check your zone here — the boundaries are not obvious, and a lot of people who think they are inland are not.
Two shelters open at 6 p.m.:
Davidson Middle School, 6261 Old Bethel Rd, Crestview — general population, special needs, and pet-friendly. Animals stay onsite but you will not be able to visit them, which the county says is to avoid injuries. Special-needs residents must register in advance.
Raider Arena, Northwest Florida State College, 100 E College Blvd, Niceville.
More may open depending on need.
Sandbags are at 714 Essex Rd in Fort Walton Beach and 1759 South Ferdon Blvd in Crestview. The county says sand is going fast at the south location and will be replenished — take what you need and leave some for your neighbours.
Once the weather passes, report damage here.
